Hidden gems in Zagreb?

Hey all,

Heading to Zagreb in 6 days and am finalizing booking hostels, etc., as well as drawing up my itinerary.

I've covered everything Rick Steves has in his Croatia guide book, but was wondering if there are any other cool destinations I might enjoy. In particular, I'm very into history (of all sorts) and especially the recent Balkan War. Are there any big sights in Zagreb that cover that topic (other than the major museums) worth seeing?

Finally, do you know if there is anything that Rick doesn't cover that is also worth seeing?

Thanks so much!

We just got back from 8 days in Croatia 🇭🇷. 2 days in Zagreb which was not enough. I 2nd above poster on Museum of Broken Relationships. I thought this was going to be goofy but after reading the stories on display, I had a tough time sleeping that night. Also paid to go up in the bell tower. Walked all over town. Found THEE best coffee bar (Quahwa, Ul. Nikole Tesle 9/1, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia - near Subspace Hostel) and dinner restaurant (Vinodol, Ul. Nikole Tesle 10, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia). Enjoy!

We ate in Vinodol also. A local recommended it. Definitely worthwhile.

My fav restaurant is Restaurant Purger, which has a distinctly Germanic vibe (waitress spoke only German, which I can speak), and the food was great. Very good Croatian specialties.
