Help with 7 day itinerary! Dubrovnik in the middle...

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise! This will be my first time in Croatia. I will be there for 7 days, and will need to spend at least two nights in Dubrovnik smack dab in the middle of the week. We are interested in also visiting Hvar and Vis -- but are open to other suggestions!

Our interests sway more toward getting a sense of a place through food and drink, walking around neighborhoods, etc., as opposed to museums/historical sites (but are open to any of the above if there are not-to-miss highlights).

Any suggestions on how and where to spend the 7 days? We'll have two days free, then need to be in Dubrovnik for two days, then will have 4 more days...

Many thanks!!!

I spent a couple days in Split and loved it.

Are you arriving initially in Dubrovnik and also departing from there? Maybe look at Korcula and Kotor Bay in Montengero as getting to Hvar and Vis will be quite a trek.

Thanks everyone! To clarify...

We need to be in Dubrovnik for those two days, but can fly in or out of any airport that makes sense (I know that "open jaw" is a method that Rick Steves encourages!). For example, we could fly into Dubrovnik, go somewhere nearby(?), then see Dubrovnik, and then spend a few days at Hvar or Vis on our way up to Split? That's one thing we're considering as far as logistics.

Would love insight from all of your experts on whether that sounds feasible. Are there other must-see places that would make more sense travel-wise? I understand that there are ferry timetables etc. to consider.

In case it's helpful in providing feedback, we tend not to linger too long in places while traveling - as an example, we did 8 days in Italy and covered Cinqueterre, Siena for the Palio, and Rome.

Thanks again!

You will be renting a car, correct? No other way to really get around efficiently

Yep can rent a car -- haven't made plans yet, regardless. Would welcome suggestions like renting a car etc.! Any tips are greatly appreciated, being unfamiliar with distances and transportation in the country.

Thanks!
