Help identify an Istrian restaurant shown on Cameron Hewitt's March travel talk

Hello All,

Just watched Cameron's travel talk of Croatia/Slovenia. He shows a woman named Alma (wife of restaurant owner), cooking over an open flame grill/fireplace. He identifies it a an Istrian restaurant where they take their tour groups for "local flavor." Does anyone know the name of the restaurant or the Istrian town so I can search the guidebook and visit when I am there?

Thanks,
Kaye

After a little bit of Google searching, I may have found it...or not ;-)

"Tonight's dinner will be an open-roasted feast in the tucked-away town of Brtonigla..." is from the RS Tour itinerary; then I searched for that phrase and 'Alma' and got this:

A 'Nino and Alma' apparently run this place.

Konoba Astarea

I didn't look for any of Caneron's photos, nor have I seen his talk on this area, so this place doesn't look familiar to me. It may also be in the RS episode for this area...just for confirmation.

I hope this was helpful! If not, happy hunting :-)

Eileen, I believe you found it. I didn't remember the name of the restaurant but going through the photos on your link, it's definitely the place where our RS Adriatic tour group was taken for a fabulous dinner one evening last May. The food was delicious and the family hosts were charming and hospitable. Also, the place was packed with locals-always a good sign. Alma does a lot of the cooking herself. One word of advice....come hungry!

Good sleuthing. That one is described on p. 179 of Rick's Croatia/Slovenia book. We don't have any secrets, so all that you need for trip planning should be in the book ;-)

So I DID accomplish something yesterday, beside watching 735 hours of DVR recordings and eating 89 lbs of Halloween candy? Go ME!!!

It's good to get confirmation, too; thanks, andi and Laura!

I took the Adriatic tour in September, and Konobo Astarea is indeed the restaurant. The food is excellent and the staff are fantastic! As I recall, we stopped there on the way back to Motovun after a day trip to Pula and Rovinj.
