We are signed up for Rick Steves Adriatic tour in 2025. We would like to fly from Boston Logan to Ljubljana and return to Boston Logan from Dubrovnik. Any suggested airlines with less than 2 stops?
matrix.itasoftware.com will show you all of your options.
Without specific dates, it's hard to say what possibilities exist.
Looking at the websites for airports and checking non-stop
destinations will also give you some idea of what flights exist.
In general, you need to get to/go from a European hub that flies
N/S to/from BOS and connects to Ljubljana & Dubrovnik.
I would keep Zagreb in mind as the inbound destination - more
flights into ZAG than LJU, and the two cities are not that far apart.
A number of people on this tour have flown into Venice and then taken a shuttle to Ljubljana.
https://www.goopti.com/en/ is often recomended. I used them to get to Ljubljana from Graz, Austria.
We went rogue and booked RT MSP - AMS. Ours plans are to train across Germany and Austria. We have 6 1/2 days to get to Ljubljana before the tour starts. We are flying back to AMS on Austrian Airlines where we will stay for a couple nights before flying home.
Good luck on finding what works for you!
We are also taking the best of the Adriatic in 2025. We fly out of Atlanta and prefer Delta so thinking of doing Atlanta to Paris to Ljubljana and home Dubrovnik- Zagreb on Croatian Airlines stay 2 nights the fly KLM/Delta Zagreb- Amsterdam-Atlanta. Delta has lots of flights to different spots direct out of Boston.
Hi,
In case this helps: We are doing the same tour in 2024. We plan to fly to Zagreb via Amsterdam and then take GoOpti to Ljubljan. We are spending a few nights on Hvar post-tour and flying home via Split/Amsterdam. Figuring this out did make my head hurt!
Happy planning!
We flew on Delta/Air France through CDG to Zagreb, then rented a car there and drove to Ljbuljana. The flight to Zagreb was cheaper and it also saved us the high cost of returning the car in a different country. In your case as others have said, you can take a bus or train. There definitely were flights with only 1 stop to LJU available, though. We flew home from Dubrovnik on Delta/AF ticket codeshare with KLM through AMS. Have you checked google flights?
We took this tour last fall. We flew on United (really United, not a code share) from Dulles through Zurich to Lubljana. We had a 4 hour layover scheduled in Zurich and arrived early. We used the time in a day hotel in the airport for a two hour nap and a shower. It was a great way to spend the time and we felt so much better.
Going home from Dubrovnik, we flew through Frankfurt. There was no option with a reasonable layover that left later than o’dark thirty and many of us from the tour were on the same flight which made airport transportation much less expensive. You may have similar options from Logan.
I took this tour in April, leaving from Washington DC. Booked thru United and flew Lufthansa to Frankfurt and then on directly to Ljubljana. Getting back from Dubrovnik was a little more difficult. They routed us thru Athens, then Frankfurt and finally on United back to DC. Since you know the dates of your tour in 2025, start with Google flights. When you see flights that look promising, set an alert and watch the prices. I don't suggest waiting less than 4 months before departure to decide what will work best for you and buy the tickets. Which big US Airlines have Boston hubs? In DC, it's United.
For the return flight, also check leaving from Podgorica as well as a few nights in Montenegro. Better than Crostia.
For September 2024, I will be flying this route ( although not on a Rick Steves Tour)
Lufthansa Airlines: Boston to Frankfurt, Germany to Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Lufthansa Airlines: Dubrovnik, Croatia to Frankfurt, Germany to Boston!
