Flight home from Dubrovnik

We are taking the RS tour in October. Any suggestions on how to get back via Dubrovnik? Flying out of Detroit. Searching on Travelocity, it looks a bit difficult.

You’ll likely need to connect from Dubrovnik through Munich or Frankfurt on Lufthansa; through Amsterdam or Paris with Delta and through Paris with Air France. It’s often hundreds of dollars less expensive to buy a separate ticket from DBV to one of these cities and plan to fly onward either many hours later or after overnighting in the city of your choice. That would be my suggestion, rather than book a roundtrip ticket to Dubrovnik that has two stops en route.
www.Skyscanner.com has airline schedules and fares.

Also suggest you forget Travelocity (which may not be all inclusive and will NOT be buying your ticket from the airline) and start playing with options in Google flights, while considering what you have been told above about Skyscanner for a single flight to leave Dubrovnik to another city for a night. I note on Google that Lufthansa can get you out with an overnight in Frankfurt

Thanks so much. I agree. I usually check on Travelocity then book with the airline. Frankfort makes sense.

FYI: Travelocity is owned by Booking Holdings Inc. which is also the parent company of Booking.com, Kayak, Agoda and RentalCars.com.

The question is worded a bit odd, but if I am correct and you are wanting to know how to get from Dubrovnik to Detroit then thats easy. You go to Google Flights you put in the two cities and the date and you pick the flight that best suits you, then book through the airline.

If you have another day or two and would enjoy spending a time in Perast or Kotor and/or Budva at the end of your trip, you can also check departures out of Tivat (TIV) and Podgorica (TGD because the city use to be Titiograd). Both are within 2.5 hours of Dubrovnik, both have flights on Turkish Air (my favorite airline) with about 3 hour layovers in IST for under $600.

EDIT: Oh, I see Turkish Air has some one stop flights out of Dubrovnik too.... Same price. I noticed not every day works though, one day showed a 15 hour lay over but most days it was about 3 hours. I just assumed the advice you got before mine was from someone who actually looked, my bad. Still, the stops in Montenegro on the way would be worth the time. Beautiful country. Like Croatia but cheaper and fewer tourists https://www.google.com/travel/flights/search?tfs=CBwQAhoeEgoyMDI1LTEwLTE5agcIARIDREJWcgcIARIDRFRXQAFIAXABggELCP___________wGYAQI&curr=USD

Or i dont understand the question and I am looking at the wrong route?

Thank you for tip on Turkish Airlines. I saw that connection. Glad to hear Turkish Airlines is your favorite.

And IST is large but extremely well organized and run. Always easy to change in IST. Beautiful airport too. Spend a night or two. Turkish Air has or had some specials for layovers. Check their website. Istanbul is pretty special.

We flew to Amsterdam on Austrian Airlines and spent a couple nights there before flying back to Minneapolis.

We're taking the same tour in May and also flying out of Detroit. We plan to fly to Zagreb after the tour and spend a couple of nights there. Then we can fly from Zagreb to Detroit with only one layover, probably in Amsterdam. I like to avoid any more than one layover, when possible.

I would check the DBV airport website and see, at least at the current time, what cities are
served and what airlines fly there.

The idea of creating a stopover especially makes sense if you can purchase a 1-way ticket
(on a European budget airline, perhaps) to a gateway city, spend a night or two, and then take
a (non-stop) flight home.

Obviously Zagreb is going to be in the list, but (even though Zagreb is perfect for a couple of
nights) you're not limited to someplace in Croatia.

Kind of depends on your preferences for what to see and how many connections you want to make.

We are flying to Dublin and then on to Chicago to Grand Rapids. Look on Skyscanner first. Then you can choose who you want to book through from there.

I would add to the post about flying from Dublin - that airport, as well as the airport in Kerry (also Republic of Ireland) do customs check before boarding the flight home to the USA. This is a huge convenience and time-saver, as you won’t have to clear customs when landing in Detroit. If you have to have a layover in another European city before your transatlantic flight and you can make Ireland work (especially on a cheap RyanAir flight), the customs check benefit alone could be worth it.
