First time in Croatia! Please advise

Fly to Dubrovnik Oct 9: 7p
Dubrovnik: Oct. 9-12
Split: Oct. 12-15
Fly to Amsterdam Oct 15, 3pm

Short and sweet, we know! Our friends are getting married in Split on Oct 13.

We would love to explore and adventure as much as possible. We'd love to be able to hike. We are also big foodies and love wine! We don't know much about the area. We are pretty open to everything except our lodging is already taken care of via airbnb. Any insight would be extremely appreciated! Just want to make the most out of this trip. Thanks!

Start reading man! You are only a month away and going to one of the most interesting and politically complex areas in the world. For example, as you arrive from the airport to Dubrovnik you will see the walled city below. Notice the roofs are two colors, red and brown. The brown roofs are original, the red ones are newer, as Dubrovnik was heavily shelled in 1991. Read about the war. You like walking so walk the top of the wall. You can walk the entire circumference and have great views of the sea and the city. Treat your thirst afterward at the hole in the wall bar. If you need some beach time, Lapad is a short public bus or taxi ride. Restaurants- Dubrovnik is awash in tourist traps. Do some research and avoid. Split-Diocletions Palace is the biggie. Given the size of it, your limited time you may want to book a tour. Google that and you'll find them. The island of Hvar is a short ferry ride away and you can hike, mingle with the rich and famous and see yachts bigger than you knew existed.

You can hike Marjan hill in Split - just google the location. I loved walking up and seeing Split down below. Look on the Croatia tourist website and TripAdvisor for more ideas.

Hike Mt. Srd in Dubrovnik ! Or you can take the cable car up to the top for awesome views and hike the mountain down.

And kayak in Dubrovnik. Just go out to the beach on the south side of town and chat with the tour operators.

Thank you guys so much!! Can't wait for the trip...we sure love hiking, so we hope to check into those recommendations. Kayaking sounds really fun, too. Any tips on specific day trips or particular islands to explore? Always good to hear from the experts! Any favorite wineries/restaurants?

In split you can do a wine and dinner tour (look at trip adviser under split things to do. I did the game of thrones tour in Split that was super! 4pm-10pm and included a brilliant traditional dinner and we were told alot about the palace, too. Definitely would recommend.

If you think you have time we also went to Korcula... loved this city and island. So much to do. dune buggy tour looked fun. Very fun city with great views.
