We want to take a ferry (without car) to Korcula on the morning of Sept. 22. Our plan is to stay in Korcula for 3 nights. I have tried looking at ferry schedules, but can't seem to find a morning ferry, or one that goes to Korcula town without an hour bus ride to town from Vela Luka. Is that the only option?
Also, is it realistic to take a day trip to Brac on one day, and to Hvar another day, sleeping in Korcula?
Maybe you could see Hvar as your 'day trip' on the way to Korcula. Take the morning ferry from Split to Hvar, then pick up that last leg of the evening Split-Hvar-Korcula route. It makes for about a six-hour layover.
It looks like the ferry that connects Korcula spends the night in the harbor there. If you like the idea of getting up to meet the 6 a.m. daily departure, it should make for decent day-trip connections on other days, as long as you can make it back to Hvar by 6 p.m as your boat heads for its nesting place each night.
Krilo website shows a morning catamaran running between Split and Korcula in 2015. Trip takes a little over 2 hours and appears to stop in Korcula town. See www.krilo.hr for schedule. The catamarans aren’t as scenic as the ferries, but they’re comfortable and an efficient way to travel.
It’s possible to daytrip to Hvar from Korcula but it requires an entire day (6:00-20:00), so better choice is to stop on your way from Split to Korcula. Both Krilo and Jadrolinija run morning catamarans that stop in Hvar. Jadrolinija website shows a late afternoon catamaran running from Hvar that appears to go to Korcula town. See www.jadrolinija.hr for schedule (look at Split district). Catamaran tickets can be purchased at kiosks near the port end of the Riva in Split. Tickets probably won’t sell out in late September, but it’s smart to buy them a day or 2 in advance. Jadrolinija (and probably Krilo) has a very good customer support department if you have questions about the schedules; should be a link on their website.
Haven’t been to Brac, so can’t comment on that as a daytrip.
