Ferry from Split to Bari

So, I did not get my ferry transport arranged soon enough and I now find that I cannot get a berth on the ferry. This is an overnight ferry. Has anyone traveled on this ferry before without a berth (night ferry)? Can you at check luggage? From what I can see on the website I can pay for an "upgrade" to a reclining seat for sleeping is this worth it? Anyone done this before?

We did a plane seat on a 23 hour ferry from Rijeka to Dubrovnik many, many, many years ago. Your trip is only 10 hours so you will be fine. Think of it as an airplane on the water. If I remember correctly, there was overhead storage above your seat like on a train. People just purchased a ticket with no seat and laid about on the deck or sat in the cafe. The berths came with restaurant reservations. I remember we brought a sandwich with us and a few snacks. Bathrooms can get a little funky after awhile though. Maybe things improved since 1978, lol.
When we took it again in 2002 we had berths. The route we took was discontinued after they built the new roads.

Thank you for the encouragement. When I checked back with the website they no longer had any reserved seats left. Ferry must very popular! Anyway, I have made some alterations to my travel plans and will be taking the ferry from Split to Ancona Italy, on SNAV. I did not see a lot of pictures of the Jadrolinjia ferry, but the SNAV ferry looked pretty nice. I was able to get a berth on this ferry. Have to leave a day earlier than I planned, but it gets me where I need to go with a little peace of mind.

Happy to hear you were able to pivot when necessary, all part of the planning. Jadrolinija’s ferries are very old and they take cars so they are larger, very basic, and slower. That’s one reason why I always recommend Krilo when taking ferries from the mainland to islands. Have a great trip.
