Ferries and Cars in Croatia

Hi All,
We are planning (fingers crossed) a June trip to Croatia and will be renting a car for part of the trip. My current plan is to drive from Mostar to catch the ferry in Ploce (which I think is the closest port) as our destination is Korcula. My questions are:
How easy is it to catch the car ferry and bring our car to Korcula town?
Is it better to return the car to Ploce and then just catch a ferry and be without a car on Korcula?
Is there a better port to catch a ferry and get to Korcula (remember we are coming from Mostar).

Thanks for your help with this in advance. If you've been to Croatia and done something similar, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

We have not been to Korcula. In 2013, we drove around Croatia, took the ferry to the east end of Hvar, drove to Hvar town then returned. Dropped the car in Dub. The car ferry was easy but they were late both ways. There are 2 ferries to get to Korcula. Check on the fees to one way a car from Mostar to Croatia - they are often high. Maybe check on a bus to Ploce then a taxi on the islands. Where are you going from Korcula? Need the car? Taking the ferry?

Did you check the ferry schedules. According to Croatiaferries.com there are 2 routes from Ploće. One to Italy and the other to Trpanj which is on the Pelješac Peninsula which is part of the coastal mainland.

Thank you..the thought was to actually have the car while we were in Dubrovnik, drive to Mostar (spend the night) and then drive back to the coast and catch the car ferry to Korcula. From there we are headed to Split and Plitvices where I know we'll need a car. Might just be too complicated and so renting a car for an overnight in Mostar might be the better way to go...and then rent again once we are in Split.

The Krilo ferry (the best and fastest) leaves the port of Gruz (just outside the old city) at 4:30. We rented from carwiz and returned the car just steps from the ferry. You could drive back from Mostar, return the car, maybe have lunch. Then hop on the ferry. Check croatiaferries.com. You can pick up a new car when you leave Split. No need for a car there.
Your other choice would be to drive to Oribeč and hop a local ferry to korčula from there. I don’t know about dropping off your car there though. That you would have to check with the rental company.

Yes! That sounds like the best option for us. I'll look at getting our car right there as well.

The Peljesac bridge is suppose to open in June 2022 , we saw it in Oct 2022 nearly complete with mainly the roads leading to it still to be finished , it crosses to the Peljesac peninsula. We had to go around via Ston to take the Peljesac peninsula to Korcula. Orebec was the town where we took the ferry to the Island of Korcula. Crossings are about every 40min pay at the ferry dock very easy to do. We had a car rental that we used driving around Korcula
