Dubrovnik to Split

What’s the best and quickest way to get from Dubrovnik to Split? We are staying in Dubrovnik 2 nights then headed to Split to catch a blue cave tour - the boat leaves Split 8:00am. Are we safe to catch a bus that early? Or do we water ferry?

It is a longish trip, 3 hours each way by bus or car. You would have to arrive the day before. Any chance of shifting your tour by a day?

More like 4.5 hours by bus. In Dubrovnik, you need to get from the old town (if that's where you are staying) to the bus terminal, so add extra time for that. I see there actually is a 3:30am bus that would get in at 7:30 in Split - perhaps you'd make it but iffy. And who wants to ride a bus all night?

Oh :( we may have messed up our schedule. We are doing 2 days in Dubrovnik then getting to Split (the plan in the morning for the tour to leave from Split). Tour guy said we could take the tour from Split to blue caves and he would drop us at the end of the day at Hvar instead of back to Split. We plan to stay on Hvar two days then head to Split a couple nights to finish our Croatia time.

I thought the travel from Dubrovnik to Split was 45-1 hour.

Dubrovnik to Split by bus is a minimum of 4.5 hours bus station to bus station and you obviously have travel at each end plus allow enough time to get your baggage onboard, so it’s unlikely to take less than 5.5 hours. It’s more than 200 km, so the only way it could be done in under an hour is by helicopter!

The daily catamaran takes 4 hours 20 and runs late afternoon, arriving Split c 8 pm. There isn’t a water ferry as it’s too far.

You need to be in Split the night before the tour or drop the tour. The tour obviously won’t run if the sea is rough, which happened when I was there a couple of years ago for two days. The tours usually involve a lot of hanging around as the number of boats in the caves at any one time is limited.

I prefer Stari Grad to Hvar town, although many places have a three night minimum booking on Hvar, so this will limit your choice.

Think you much all! Looks like I need to change our rooms or like you said, drop the tour. Seems like the blue cave is a must see though!
