Dubrovnik to Italy in September

We're trying to get to Italy (either Bari or Naples) from Dubrovnik in September. It looks like the ferry doesn't run then, and there are no direct flights to Naples (we prefer not having to go really out of our way to Rome). Any suggestions how to get across efficiently and fairly quickly?

There are direct discount flights from Podgorica to Rome. Podgorica is only about 3 hours and it makes for a great trip. Montenegro is beautiful. Spend the night in Perast on the way. Worth the effort. And if you are there this September we might cross paths.

Thank you for the advice. I guess I was looking at the wrong website where it said the ferries don't travel after August. They do. We will be taking the ferry. Montenegro is on our agenda too.

If you are going to Montenegro, the road along Kotor Bay and the towns are very interesting. At least was the most enjoyable for me; Kotor didn't impress me as anything more than a lesser version of Dubrovnik packed full of tourists. The trip from Dubrovnik to Kotor is way too interesting to wizz through and back again on a tour bus. From Kotor to Podgorica is about 1.5 hours on a stunning switch back mountain road. Along the way are son interesting towns and a prosciutto curing establishment that is worth stopping in to see and eat. 2015 we made this trip, ending in Podgorica late in the evening and flying out early the next morning.

So impressive was Montenegro that we return in September, from the States via Rome, to spend more time on the southern coast then up to the mountains of the Interior for the nature and the fishing; then on to Budapest out of Podgorica nonstop on Wizz for $86.

I plan trips around efficient transportation. With so little time to travel if transportation takes more than 4 hours between points of interest it's wrong for my taste. Optimum is an hour or less And in most instance I can make that happen. And back tracking is a total taboo.

I didn't care for Kotor itself much either; it's OK, but the drive along the bay is much more interesting. But it's well worth a visit to Kotor just to walk the "walls" above the town - really a very steep climb up many steps to the top, for a breathtaking view down on the bay of Kotor. This is where many postcard Kotor pictures are shot from.

Montenegro is really worth the time. If you are spending anything more than 2 nights in Dubrovnik, cut the stay short and spend it going down the coast.
