Dubrovnik to Elaphiti by Ferry?

Does anyone have good advice on traveling to the Elaphiti Islands from Dubrovnik by Jadrolinija Ferry in August? I found the timetable, and the price looks cheap, but I've read mixed reviews on the reliability and confusing check-in process. We would like to do a day trip to Sipan or Lopud.

The other option is to do a tour, but I will be arriving the night before from the United States. I don't know if I will feel up for waking up for a 9:30am tour, and the ferry leaves at 11:45am. This is the best day for us to see the islands due to a day trip to Mostar and saving a day to explore Dubrovnik when no cruise ships are in port.

Thanks!

I have traveled by Jadrolinija ferry multiple times and never had any issues. Does the tour also leave from the port? (wondering if any tours still leave from old town, as that would save you the bus ride at least)

When we went to Sipan a few years ago, we took the afternoon ferry - Jadrolinja, ticket office a zoo - and enjoyed the proverbial slow boat stopping at all the main islands. We came back a few days later on the little water taxi that leaves from basically the same spot in Gruz harbour. You may be able to catch the water taxis both ways for speed. The old boat on the Jadrolinja run was a typical old style ferry with interesting people on board from all over. The Elafiti are a step back in time, so why not use local ferry? It helps to buy a ticket long before the boat leaves. Sipan is well worth a visit. The old ferries are gradually being replaced so you may be surprised by a new vessel, or experience the last of the old ones.

Thank you for the information! It's great to hear the ferry is fairly easy. We will plan to get there early to purchase a ticket. Do you know if you can purchase a ticket the day before?
