Dubrovnik -Mostar- Korcula- Plitvice Lakes itinerary

My head is spinning with options and I'm trying to nail down an itinerary to start booking.
I am traveling in August in a group of 6(only backpacks) . I figured renting a car would be more economical than buying
public transport for everyone in the group. We are beginning in Dubrovnik and need to fly out of Split.
We have a total of 7 nights and want to squeeze in Plitvice Lakes.

Here is what I've drafted. Is there a better way to do this?
Should we skip the island overnight and just do a daytrip to an island? or stay along the coast instead?
Instead of daytrip to Mostar should we spend the night and travel from Mostar to Korcula next day?

Day 1: Tues-arrive @9am Dubrovnik airport. There is 1 cruise ship at port; explore town; sleep Dubrovnik
Day 2:Wed -2 cruise ships at port; rent car for early daytrip to Mostar? return and sleep in Dubrovnik
Day 3:Thurs- drive to Korcula via Orebic ferry? explore korcula; sleep Korcula
Day 4: Fri- explore korcula and then ferry to Split; sleep Split
Day 5: Sat-explore Split and then drive to Zadar; sleep Zadar
Day 6: Drive Zadar to Plitvice Lakes; visit lakes in the evening; sleep PL
Day 7: visit PL in the morning; visit Krka in the afternoon, sleep Trogir
Day 8: explore Trogir; drop car; flight out of Split @3pm

Day 3:Thurs- 3 cruise ships at port; Day trip to an island and then drive to Omis? sleep Omis
Day 4: Fri- Omis area; sleep Omis (Non-partiers with children - should we avoid Split on Friday Night?)
Day 5: Sat-explore Split and then drive to Zadar; sleep Zadar

Thank you for your help.

You appear to be sleeping in a different place each night. That's a lot of moving around. Usually, you figure to lose 1/2-3/4 of a day by moving.

I'd rejigger these, by using 2 or 3 bases and day trips.

Day 1-3 - Dubrovnik - possible side trip to Mostar
Day 4 - PL (arrive evening, tour morning; with 6, consider a sobe near PL)
Day 5-7 - Split (day trip by boat to Trogir)

I'd drop Zadar. You might be able to do Mostar on the way to PL.

Split's a pretty big town. Friday night can be somewhat crowded, but you'll enjoy that.

In my approach, you need 1 car - Dubrovnik to PL. You may wish to consider hiring a private driver.

Be sure to advise your car-rental company that you plan to drive into Bosnia-Hercegovina.

@ Paul-of-the-Frozen-North,
I've been worried about the crowds in Split the first week of August.
I have read that it is advisable to find accommodation with private beach access or to go to the less crowded island Vis.
Is it somewhat pleasant to travel by ferry? The ferries from Split to Vis are 2hrs and 20 mins.
As long as we can enjoy scenery, read or play games it seems like the ferry ride is manageable.
What are your thoughts?

Sorry, but you don’t have time for Vis. Following Mama Mia being filmed there, Vis certainly isn’t quiet in peak season.

Day 1 - try to stay awake - Dubrovnik

Day 2 - explore Dubrovnik properly.

Day 3 - drive to Split, having lunch in Omis.

Day 4 - day trip to either Brac or Hvar, sleeping in Split.

Day 5 - explore Split then drive to Plitvice exploring the coast en route

Day 6 - explore PL (5-6 hours) then drive to Krka

Day 7 - explore Krka then drive to Trogir

Day 8 - explore more of Trogir. You will need to be at the airport at 11.30 latest to drop the car.
