Your thoughts on staying in Pile? I like the idea of a bit of quiet and maybe a more value/space. Note (we will be staying 3 nights)

We have stayed outside and inside the Old Town - inside is better. we are 6 travelling this summer and we are again staying inside. It is closer to the beach, to the sights, and an afternoon nap when it is too hot.

You need to decide based on how much luggage you're carrying. I stayed outside the city walls last year and was glad I did so. As a solo traveler I was not prepared to hall my own luggage up very steep steps in the Old Town.
