Dubrovnik, Korcula, Split

My husband and I will be traveling to Croatia in August. (Crowded, yes) We are staying 3 nights in Dubrovnik, 1 in Korcula, 1 in Split. We will have a rental car. Is it a good plan, in your opinions, to take the ferry from Dubrovnik to Korcula and leave the car in the car park in Dubrovnik? Then we would take a ferry back the next day, get in car and go up to Split. Is there a more efficient way? Thanks in advance for any advice.

A more efficient way, in my opinion, would be to drop the car in Dubrovnik, ferry or catamaran to Korcula, then same to Split. Why backtrack. Also, driving in Dubrovnik and Split is horrendous in the summer. We drove Istria to Split and couldn’t wait to get rid of the car once we arrived. You can take a car ferry to each island, but most rental cars don’t allow it. You would have to check that out.

Ditch the car - it's only going to be a hassle. Take the catamaran to Korcula and then the catamaran on to Split.

In fact, you might not stay a night in Korcula at all. Is it really worth it? You could day trip from Split there or perhaps to Hvar. You may also have trouble booking a place for only one night in Korcula in the summer.

Having a car isn’t a good idea. You don’t need it in Dubrovnik and for only 1 night in Korcula and Split, it’s a hassle.

Unless you have a reason to be in Dubrovnik for 3 nights, I would look to reduce that to 2 nights. I would then head to Split for 2 nights. It will take half a day to transfer door to door. Split can be seen in a full day and personally, I wouldn’t miss the nearby charming Trogir. Trying to add another transfer in to Korcula will cost you another half day, which for your short timescale isn’t worth it IMO.

There is no point back tracking to Dubrovnik to pick up your car. That’s another half day wasted. Ditch the car.
