Dubrovnik Hotels

I’m looking for a home base for 4 nights this August. I was possibly looking around the airport for possible easy public transportation? I would also consider a small community outside the old town with a grocery store, pharmacy and a few good restaurants within easy walking distance. I unfortunately cannot make the visit to Medugorje due to circumstances but don’t want to cancel my flight reservations. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cavtat is closer to the airport and people seem to like staying there, but I am not sure that would be of benefit regarding public transport--the bus station is more of the hub you would need, and it is near the main port as well.
Public transport from old town is frequent and convenient. Staying just outside of old town would be my preference, if you are okay with steps.
What trips are you planning on?

I unfortunately have to limit my stairs and not having knowledge of the area I am unaware of the challenges of the area. I do have the RS Croatia edition which I’m trying to get a feel for the best location. I would head into the Old Town for architecture, churches, museums, history. Not a Game of Thrones fan so no interest there. Looks like the airport is south of the city, cruise ships to the north. RS mentions Boninovo Bay, Lapad or Port Gruz (cruise ships) but the main bus station is here. Are all 3 areas safe for solo female?

Just researched Cavtat. Sounds perfect, ferry directly to Dubrovnik Old Town port, a lovely walking path around the peninsula, day trip to Montenegro, local wineries. The posted YouTube videos sold me.

In addition to the ferry, Cavtat has a bus to take you to & from Dubrovnik. You can also day trip to Montenegro via bus from Cavtat if you’d like. And there are boat tours to various islands that you can book at the harbor.

We absolutely love Cavtat — sitting by the harbor at sunset with a glass of wine, watching the yachts dock. I’d suggest you look for a hotel quickly — it’s a small town.

I’m sure Cavtat is fine but it’s quite far from Dubrovnik. Lapad has everything you seek and is much closer to the old town — only about 15 minutes by very frequent bus service.

Lapad is closer. Gruz area is fine, we’ve walked from there to the old town many times (my husband’s aunt lives in Gruz). And taxis aren’t outrageously priced.
