Dubrovnik / Lokrum - Day Dock Guidance

We will be docking in Dubrovnik for the day (I believe from 8 AM–4 PM), and we’d love to explore both Old Town and a few museums before taking the ferry to Lokrum.

I’ve seen recommendations for purchasing a city pass. Right now, the main benefit I see is that it covers museum entrance fees, but I’m not sure how close everything is to one another or if it’s actually worth it for a short day visit.

Has anyone done something similar on their own? If so, how did you do it and/or tips.

How doable is it to explore Dubrovnik independently in one day? Are the castles, museums, and main attractions fairly close together, or is transportation needed between stops?

It depends on exactly where you are docking. most cruise ships Dock in the port of Gruž which is a short taxi ride away. I’ve seen ships nearer to Dubrovnik but a tender is needed.

Dubrovnik’s old town is small and the museums near each other. Walking the wall (€40) takes a good 2 hours unless you walk fast. The ferry to Lokrum is a whopping €30 which to me is outrageous. It is less then a 15 minute ride. I remember not too long ago when it was less then €5 (before the turn over from the Kuna).
Anyway, if you go up to Mt Srđ, another €30, you have to walk just a little uphill outside the Pile Gate to catch the cable car.
Actually, all these prices are outrageous since I remember when the walls were free. But I digress..…

I don’t remember the costs for the museums since its been quite a few years since we visited them. If you want to do the cable car, walk the walls, and visit Lokrum it will not leave much time for museums.

Just an FYI, you can walk 1/2 the wall and pop into the Maritime Museum which has an entrance on the wall. This would save you some time.

Good luck with your planning.
