Just a head's up. We took the Sea Line Ferry to Dubvronik from Cavtat today. Trip over was fine. Return trip on Galesnik boat ( 30 passengers?), the Captain was watching a movie on his cell phone, his crew mate was sleeping. The boat was weaving. Other tourists thought the captain was sleeping, so I got up to look. The captain waved me back to my seat, continued the mobile phone movie until we docked. We said that this was not safe. Both men were rude and laughed as I made a point of checking the name of the boat. I would choose a different company to transport me the 45 minutes on the water.
Is it possible they were using auto pilot? I assume if they were heading into the current on the return trip it would be more difficult for auto pilot to hold a straight line. Of course the captain would still need to keep an eye on the water in case of obstructions so if he wasn't looking up from his cell phone then he should be reported.
I remember the same thing. I was not concerned. The trip is 1/2 hour, straight shot, little other traffic, and I never once felt unsafe. I think you are being a bit harsh on this company. My guess also is that the captain has taken this route hundreds, thousands of times, and can do it with his eyes closed.
