Dubrovnik - booking a boat trip to the Elafiti Islands

Hello,
I did a search and found lots about day trips from Dubrovnik but didn't hit on anything specific to my needs.
We are interested in taking a boat trip that covers some of the main Elafiti Islands. I will be with my husband and 15 and 11 year old daughters. Stopping to swim and walk will be important to us. Firstly - is there a company that anyone could recommend? Secondly - should we book online now or book once we arrive in Dubrovnik in early August? (This is part of a 96 day trip that covers parts of Europe and Japan - so our budget is modest - there are lots of very flash looking private tours but sadly that isn't an option.)
Thanks

We are staying in Dubrovnik in September and are interested in the same type of trip. We found one on Viator website, Elafiti Islands Cruise from Dubrovnik. Would be interested in your feedback after you return and what option you choose for exploring the islands.

The wonderful Elafiti islands are served by both the Jadrolinija ferry, well worth experiencing but slow, and a series of water taxis that operate out of Gruz, the port of Dubrovnik. We used both when we visited Sipan (it's actually 'Shipan') a few years ago. We stayed at Hotel Sipan then. Sipan is the tiny quiet island at the end of the ferry run. Other islands closer to Dubrovnik have more variety, but some have party reputations. The water taxis are used by locals, sitting opposite each other on benches in small high speed boats with canopies, and are fast and fun. I don't think you book them, you just find their guys at the port and ask when they leave. Day trips on water taxis would be faster…Air BnB is now in Croatia if you need cheaper private accommodation and can plan ahead. Private accommodation is now all listed online - look up the word Apartman as the key word for all kinds of rooms, suites, etc. Agrotourism on farms, vineyards etc is also cheaper - look up the word agroturizam and hope for an English button on the websites. Warn your daughters that most summer shops in main streets selling 'fashion' are owned by the same people, and sell knock-offs that will go on sale in September for nothing before the store closes for the winter. You can walk and swim on Sipan, it's amazing. Wear gel shoes and watch for sea urchins, that's all. The olive groves on Sipan are almost as good as my favourite hikes on Losinj Island up north.
