Dubrovnik accommodations in October

My husband and I are planning a trip the first week in October. Plan to stay in Dubrovnik for 3-4 days. Any recommendations for where to stay in or about the old town. We will be sailing a week later, so we will have plenty of the Adriatic coast later. We are both art conservators and in our youthful 60s, so we would like to avoid hostels and characterless modern hotels.

Any recommendations.

Without knowing your budget, I'll pass these links along. At the very least, they will give you some ideas of really neat properties and what they look like.

I stayed in a lovely little place called Roko House a few years ago (inside the fortified city). I found the place on Splendia.com. The lady who owned it was incredibly nice. It was technically an apartment, not a B & B, but centrally located and really bright, neat, and clean - a little small though, but that was fine by me. It cost about EUR 95 per night, but that was a few years ago in September (shoulder season). Some places can get quite pricy (and many have just a few units at a certain price) so I would recommend finding one that fits your budget early and reserving it.

We were just in Dubrovnik and stayed at The Neptun Hotel which we loved. It is on the coast on the penninsula north of downtown. It's part of a resort complex but on a bus line, 6, that gets you to the Pile Gate in about 10 minutes. We were upgraded to a corner panoramic view room with a balcony and wonderful views of the ocean on two sides. We found via booking.com. The price, around 100$/a night, included a hugh breakfast. They will even make you cappucinos if you ask.
