Dubrovnik - 2 Days in May 2025 + Rent Car to Korcula

Hi everyone, my 76 year old mother and I will be landing in Dubrovnik from Malta at 1:20 PM on 5/12 Monday.

We would like to devote Tuesday to the walled city and are looking for the best place to stay for Monday and Tuesday nights so we can prioritize getting out there early. It's been almost 20 years since I was there, so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Then, on Wednesday morning, we would like to rent a car and drive to Korcula (auto ferry from Orebic). Best place to rent an automatic car that we could leave in Split about a week later on departure?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

We stayed at Hotel Lero on a RS tour last month, and we also spent one night at Hotel Porto. Both were close to bus stops where it was easy to catch a bus to the Old Town. The bus for the airport shuttle stopped very close to Hotel Porto (at least on the route to the airport). Because we were with a local RS tour guide in the morning, we didn't get on the wall until about 11 AM, and that was too late. It was really crowded in a few spots.

Stay inside the old town. We stay at any of these three places
Dubrovnik Gardens - only stay in the main house, lotsa stairs
B+B Andio - a few steps off the stradun (Main Street) some steps
Pavisa Apartments - at the top of the stairs off the stradun, stairs inside too

If price is not a concern, try the Hilton which is just a 5 minute walk outside the Pile Gate or the Pupič Palace which is inside the walls. Neither have stairs.

Our last car rental was in Portugal this past month. We booked through booking.com which was a first for us. Worked out great. Otherwise look at Sixt. There pickup in Dubrovnik is near Gruž and drop off in Split is a short cab ride away.

I don’t know if you are dead set on renting a car but check out the ferry to Korčula then to Split at croatiaferries.com. The drive to Orebič is long and the car ferry I believe only goes once a day.
The ferry from Dubrovnik is a 10 minute cab ride and about the same when you get to Korčula. The ferry port in Split is steps from the old town. The tickets are inexpensive and the ride is very relaxing.
We always take the ferries and only rent a car if we are going to Rijkea or Zagreb afterwards.
