Driving route from Plitvice Lakes National Park to Rijeka

Hi, what is the best route to take to drive from Plitvice Lakes National Park to Rijeka, leving Plitvice at around 6pm.

Google shows the fastest route being D1 to Otok Ostarijski, then E71 to Bosiljevo , then A6/E65 to Grobnicka Cesta in RIjeka.

Another route shown is D1 south to Vrelo Kornick, D52 to Otocac, then D50/D23 to Senj, then E65 to Smrika, then A7 / E65 to Elektrina, then 404 to Rijeka.

We would prefer road that are more highway than smaller roads that weave through mountains, as we might get further delayed leaving and don't want to be driving thru zig/zag mountain roads after sunset.

As far as I remember both roads are basically the same. There was a 20-30 minute difference between the 2 but both are essentially major highways. The longer route has some back tracking south to get back into the major road ways there as continuing north from Plitvice it’s a bit more driving through small towns and back roads but it’s quite enjoyable, and imo I’d probably recommend that route over back tracking to the highway.

We just did this in October and it’s a nice drive either way I’d think
