I wanted to see both Mostar and Kotor with separate day trips from Dubrovnik but then decided that it would be better to rent a car and drive in a circle and stay a night or 2 in each place. I've been reading up on how to do it but I still have a few questions. I've read that I need a "green card" from the insurance company (which I understand costs extra). I've looked on a few rental car sites (Sixt and Auto Europe) and I don't see how I can let them know that I want to cross into another country. I'm sure I have to let them know ahead of time. I'm assuming that I can't just tell them the day I pick the car up. Does Google maps work once I get outside of Mostar and Kotor? How busy is the Karasovići border crossing between Mostar and Dubrovnik in May? Do I need to build in a lot of time for this? Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I would just call up AutoEurope--they should be able to tell you exactly what to do.
I have not done this exact journey but people do it all the time, so I would not worry too much about it since you are giving yourself ample time.
Download your Google Maps routes so they will be available offline if you encounter spotty service.
