Driving in Croatia

What’s it’s like to drive in Croatia? Are there good road signs, road safety, etc.

Driving is easy compared to many, more crowded places in Europe. The driving is not aggressive. Road signage is OK but you may want to have satnav to assist for smaller places.

I found driving there easy enough, though in a few of the old cities like Dubrovnik driving can be a bit stressful in certain parts of town - very narrow streets and such. Much easier outside of the cities. Roads are good. Some fast highways are toll roads but very modern.

Drivers can pass very aggressively on two lane roads without much passing distance, so be prepared for that. It can be a little scary the first few times it happens. Try to drive the speed limit and not too slowly either.

I'd take a smart phone for GPS, though on my first trip I had no GPS of any sort. But I did a very simple trip from Zagreb to Plitvice, to Mostar, and then dropped the car in Dubrovnik. Hard to get lost on that drive.

Excellent roads, excellent signs. Better than the US roads.
