Driving from Trogir to Plitvice - help me maximize my day!

Hello, we (myself, husband, 71 year old Rick-obsessed mother, and 4 year old son) are hitting Croatia in August.

For the Split/Trogir portion of our trip we have opted to stay in Trogir. After that we are headed to Plitvice but are giving ourselves a full day to get there (head out early from Trogir, arrive in the evening, hit Plitvice early the following day).

We have a car and want to explore the coast-Sibenik and Zadar on our day of driving from Trogir. Does anyone have any specific words of advice on how to plan our day? We admittedly won't have long so I appreciate everyone's thoughts and advice.

Your plan sounds fine. I spent a few hours recently exploring Sibenik - loved it, but a few hours to explore was adequate. I stayed over in Zadar - the guesthouse owner helped me find a free parking spot on a busy weekend. I'm not sure how/where you park in Zadar close to the pedestrian-only core, but I'd find out ahead of time where the parking is. Paid parking should be easy to find in Sibenik along the water (free on Sunday).

If you want to cram one more thing into a busy day, consider a quick stop at Krka National Park close to Sibenik, if only to see the amazing Skradinski Buk waterfall. There's nothing that big or impressive at Plitvice (though, overall, I preferred Plitvice to Krka). I parked at the town of Skradin and took a boat up the river to the falls, but I think you can park closer just to get a quick look at the falls. I think you can park at the Lozovac entrance and have a short walk to the falls to save time. I imagine it will be quite busy there in August, though.
