Day Trip from Dubrovnik to Islands

Looking for a good day trip from Dubrovnik to nearby island/s with a group of from 4-8 people. Open to private tour with local guide, group tour with something like Viatours, or planning our own trip by ferry. Any suggestions for must-see islands, beaches and private tours, group tours, or using the ferries will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Liz from just a few miles away:)

We took the boat from Dubrovnik to Cavtat a few years ago and it still holds a prominent position in my memory!

While the view across the bay to Cavtat looked pristine and lovely, the boat ride was awful! It was so choppy when we were out there it was unbelievable.

The waves were coming up over the sides of the boat and even though we moved around continuously to try to get away from the water, we were soaked through completely when we got to Cavtat - and I mean soaked through - my clothes, my purse, my undergarments:)

And there were many many people throwing up over the side of the boat.

OMG it was something! I did some research after the ride and saw that it's commonly quite bumpy (note to self: do research BEFORE boat ride).

We took the bus back to Dubrovnik. Much better.

We loved the island of Korčula but we traveled there from Split. We could have spent several days in Korčula. There are vineyards and wineries on the island too. I do not recall any rough seas in that location however did encounter them farther out in the Adriatic heading to other islands.

The ferry from Dubrovnik to Korcula is about 2 hours each way. We will be in Dubrovnik in September and hired Dubrovnikrivieratours.com (in Rick’s book) for a half day trip to Cavtat/Konavle by car. Cavtat is about 30 minute drive. Kotor is a full day trip we also booked. We are 6 adults. Mostar is one of their tours but that is also a long ride. Miljet has a nature park and other sights, you go by ferry. You can also take the public bus to Cavtat.

On the other hand, we took the boat to Cavtat in 2017, and it was very pleasant. So, it really depends on the wind. If it's windy, don't do the boat.
