Day Tours to Plitvice from Split...Worth It??

The organized day trips seem very long...12 hours...so wondering if Plitvice is worth it? Looks just stunning though.

Plitvice is stunning and definitely worth visiting. However, I personally think the best way to visit Plitvice is to drive there from Split and stay overnight. Plan to visit either the Upper Lakes or Lower Lakes in the late afternoon, let's say around 4PM. Then visit the lakes you didn't see on the first day in the morning. Be at the park by 9AM. This way you miss most of the tour bus crowds. I think it's the best way to beat the crowds.

A day trip would definitely be long. Half your day would be in the vehicle. Plitvice is amazing - however “worth it” is a moving target. With no idea of how much time you have for other areas, or even in Split, or how much you love nature, it’s hard to say.

We have 4 full days in Split and travel to Plitvice would use up one day. I guess I'm wondering if 3 days dedicated to Split is enough. We both love nature and Plitvice sounds truly amazing!
Thank you both for your Input....any other ideas?

I love Plitvice, but it will not be so wonderful if you make it a day trip from Split. Believe me, I day tripped there from Zagreb in 2015 and the walkways (mostly over water and without guardrails) were absolutely packed. The conditions were seriously not good.

I was in Split last fall and it’s definitely a 3-day town.
I agree with the others who say the best way to see Plitvice is to overnight there as it’s a 3-3.5 -hour journey each way from Split and if you daytrip there you will be among the mobs who are arriving at the park late morning and leaving late afternoon.
If you stay at one of the 3 government hotels inside the National Park. ( the Hotel Jezero, the Hotel Bellevue or the Hotel Plitvice) you can buy a “ One-day Ticket” which gives you admission to the park the day you arrive AND the next morning before you check out. This means you can be at the park after most daytrippers are departing and again the next morning before they arrive. Only guests at the three National Park hotels can buy the ticket and it’s the same price as a single admission, last time I checked, That’s the way to see Plitvice National Park.
