Day tour to Plitvice Lakes from Zagreb

Hello all. We are looking for recommendation for a full day tour to & from Plitvice Lakes from Zagreb, on Sept. 28th. I know it's not even close to the the best way to see the park, but it's what we have. I'd love a smaller tour with a great guide, which why I'm asking for help with a recommendation. We're an active & fit 69 & 76 year old couple. Thank you!

I really hate to see someone trying to visit the park on a day trip, because the place gets slammed by daytrippers; it is a very disappointing experience. If you must, however, you really don't need a guide. The park has several walking routes laid out, requiring different amounts of time. It seems unlikely to me that a commercial, not-private tour would provide much extra value once you're at the park. I wouldn't want to be locked into a walking route planned for a bus-load of people. Taking a tour would relieve you of the need to check bus schedules, however.

Perhaps someone here has taken a tour to Plitvice and can give you first-hand advice, but I don't remember anyone mentioning having done that.

If you’d like a more private and flexible experience, I recommend Ivan Ćosić (MC Travel Croatia) for transport. He’s excellent and also knows licensed guides who can join you for the day at Plitvice. That way you can go at your own pace and avoid the big bus crowds.

I believe Ivan may also be the person called Johny.postola2. But I could be wrong. Check Viator and GetYourGuide as well.

You are going late September, may not be too bad. I went about 11am one warm July day and it wasn't too bad, actually not bad at all. No one here can tell you for sure one way or another, because no one here went at 11am in late September. I think its a prime example of the joke, "no one goes there because its too crowded".

With a tour they have skip the line and you dont have to mess with parking which really improves life. When I went i hired a private transfer there, another to Split afterwards. A trip planner i know I the Balkans took care of the details.

Now, if I had stayed 6 hours, the people behind us would have caught up and maybe it would been a problem. Dont know. I did one of the marked 3 hour walks and that was plenty for me.
