Day tour - Dubrovnik to Montenegro

I'm traveling solo in the former Yugoslavia in May, and I'm looking for a day trip from Dubrovnik to Montenegro.

I've been in touch with Pepo Klaic as well as Tomislav and Petar Vlasic, and not yet decided. All seemed very accommodating. I am leaning to Pepo because he said he often has solos join with other solos or couples to help defray the costs. Peter Vlasic says he is not willing to drive up the road to Cetinje. Tomislav will do it for an additional charge.

Does anyone have any recommendations or other suggestions?

Or if you will be in Dubrovnik on May 23 or 24 and interested in partnering up for this, please reply.

You might also consider a day tour. I took one offered by Atlas Tours that I really enjoyed. It included an hour or so stop in Cetinje, but looks like the current tour might make a shorter stop. Their webiste is www.atlas-croatia.com, and you can find tour details on the Excursions tab. There are other companies that offer day tours to Montenegro, but I'm not familiar with them.

I believe I used Atlas tours as well, but to be honest, it may have been one of the other tour groups. They use a smaller bus, 20 or so people, stop 3-4 places, some guided tour, then time on your own. We really enjoyed it, cost was reasonable, hit the highlights plus as I said, time to do your own thing.

The people you mentioned are more private tours I take it, certainly you will get a good tour, maybe more customization, but also more $$$. What we did was not outrageous, doubt we paid more than the equivalent of 30 to 50 USD.

Thanks to all for your responses.

I have to admit it's hard to justify $400 for a private tour vs. $70 for a group, so I will definitely consider some of your fine suggestions.

Still open to sharing a private tour with anyone else who will be in Dubrovnik at the same time, so if that's you, please send me a private message.

We used Petar Vlasic and can't say enough nice things about him.

I did this day trip myself last September. I rented a car in Dubrovnik. I had to get an automatic transmission because I don't know how to drive a manual. So, obviously that increased the cost. I paid roughly $100 or so for the car. The car rental company dropped it off at my apartment and picked it up the following day. No hassle. I did get a very early start (left at 7 am), so that incurred a small uptick in the rental car cost (I'm sure I paid no more than $120-130). Driving through Montenegro on my own was a total blast and you can stop and go as you please. The road to Kotor has many wonderful vistas and you'll want to stop to take lots of pics. I made it all the way up to Cetinje (I didn't really stop here). I continued on to see the Skadarsko Jezero (huge lake) and then ended up taking the road back to the coast to see the sun setting over Sveti Stefan. I got back to Dubrovnik fairly late, around 9 or 10 pm. But again, it was so worth it. If you decide on this option, be sure to take a good map with you. The one I had probably wasn't the best and I did end up getting a little lost in getting to the lake. But it was pouring rain so that added a little of an extra challenge. Don't let this keep you from considering this option though.
