Day/over night trips from Dubrovnik to Mostar and Kotor

So my wife and I will be in Dubrovnik for 10 days October 5th to 15th. We may cut this down to 7 though because we are likely to get antsy and want to move on.

We are looking to do day trips or potentially over night trips to both Mostar and Kotor. I’ve searched through the forums and come across various suggestions etc. but most now are from 2019 or earlier.

Is a guided tour the easiest way to do these trips? I’ve come across some fairly highly rated ones on Viator, a site we’ve had success with booking tours in the past. However I’d also be open to using transit etc. but options to Mostar seem somewhat limited.

I’d also be open to renting a vehicle for both and taking our time, spending the night but then you have the headache of dealing with the parking etc.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding more recent tours they’ve used and what the experience was like, any input would be much appreciated

I would rent a car and stay overnight in both--you have ample time unless you were considering staying elsewhere in Croatia. You can inquire with hotels or accommodations about parking, so that's easy to overcome. Alternatively, you can travel by bus, but I would only do this for an overnight because of the bus schedules.
Ssince it's a long ride to both, and there are spots to make use of the car along the way, I see no reason to not take advantage of it.

Amazing thanks. I think a big factor as you guys have laid out is that it takes so long (relatively) to get to these places sitting in a little mini bus for 6 hours In a day is a bit much.

We booked 10 days in Dubrovnik as part of our 3 month euro trip, we will be coming off a somewhat whirlwind first couple weeks (Oktoberfest, a wedding in Dublin, etc.)

But yea. I think I’m going to contact my Airbnb host and shorten the stay to 7 days and potentially even leave earlier than that

We had a rental car during our entire trip to Croatia way back in 2016 and we drove to Mostar and spent one night, which was enough for me, and then we spent two nights in Kotor. I recommend 2 nights in either Kotor or Perast so that you can have a whole day to get out on the water without having to also move accommodations the same day. We had a lovely boat trip that took up most of the day and included enough time for a lunch on the water in Perast. Parking was just a bit hectic but we found a spot in both Mostar and Kotor and then didn't touch the car until we left.
