Hi,
We will be doing a cruise and stopping in each of these ports for the day. Is it easy to walk the cities on our own or are there other places to see for the day or would we be better off hiring a guide in each city? Thank you!
Do you mean zadar, cause Zagreb is not on the coast.
Anyway, in Dubrovnik you would need to take a taxi to the old town, then you can see all on your own. It is a short ride. We have walked to the port from the old town but it is about 45 minutes. I have seen some cruise ships anchor outside and the passengers tender in.
In Split, if I am correct, you would be close enough to walk into town. I have a great guide to recommend. I’m not home now so I’ll add another post later or PM me.
If your third stop is zadar I don’t know where the cruise ship dock.
You can google each city and check where your specific line docks. Things have been changing with regard to cruise sips so it might help with your planning.
Yes, thank you for correcting me! I would love the name of a good guide and thank you for the information. I really appreciate it.
I think it is better to hire a guide, but hugly depends on a guide.
It is also about you, if you want to hear about local culture, expiriences etc.
If you just want "safety" and so, do not hire as Croatia is pretty safe.
PS In dubrovnik you can take a cab to old city, or take a local bus from the shore. I would d e f i n i t l l y, as a local, suggest to do something else in the 9 -12 timezone. Go to Lapad, have a nice meal and swimm in some bay (Uvala Lapad Area, Dubrovnik) and THEN go to OLD CITY. It is much less crowded this way
I have two guides - Pero Ugarković - email is [email protected]. He is a solo guide who lives and works in Split. I ran into him on my last visit and he told me that many people I have recommended have booked him. He was very thankful. He is very nice, a good sense of humor, adaptable for example Game of Thrones sites, and great English.
The other is Mate Perajica - email is [email protected]. Mate has a small tour company which can be booked for anywhere on the coast. He is an expert on Mostar and Medjugorje. He also lives in Split with his wife and 3 children. Again, so nice, perfect English and very funny. Knows his stuff.
https://www.privatedriverguideincroatia.com/ Is his website.
I think it would be difficult to understand much of the history in Split without a guide because the Old Town is a 1,700 year old building. I had a great tour from Maja Benzon ([email protected]). She is also recommended by Rick.
Thank you for this information. It is very helpful. My own mistake...we are not going to Split after all, but Koper instead.
