Croatia / Trieste / Border crossing

How much time should I plan into my trip between Rovinj, and Trieste? About the only way I can see this working is if I leave Rovinj very early in the AM to get to Trieste to make a 7:am train to Venice but I need to know how long a border crossing might take.

Thanks!

Leaving Rovinj August 28th. I screwed myself in my scheduling a little bit when I booked a hotel in Praiano for that night, not realizing the difficulty I would have in finding adequate transportation schedules that could actually get me there in a timely manner! And I would probably be taking a private car hire or taxi from Rovinj.

Everybody's a comedian.. I knew there was some distance, but what I didn't count on was the lack of flights out of SPU which was my initial option. I just don't know if they add flights into the schedule as time goes by or if that's simply all there is. Same with flights outbound from Trieste, or Venice to Naples. I will probably just have to drop that first night in Praiano, and add a night along the way somewhere from a train leg coming out of Venice. That wouldn't be a horrible solution, I just wanted to avoid a single night in any city if I could.

I don't know anything about the rails north of Rome, but I took the night train from Rome to Sicily in 2015, and it was a miserable, 100% sleepless, experience. I'm used to the subtle bumping as a train goes over joints in the rails. My car (couchette) was constantly jerking from side to side. It was impossible to fall asleep. Needless to say, I was totally dead on my arrival day in Sicily.
