Croatia Tour

Hi All

Trust hat you are well.

We are planning a trip to Croatia and Italy.
We need to start in Zagreb and then I thought we could go to Dubrovnik and Split (I know travel wise this does not make sense but we are flying into Zagreb).
From there we want to go to Venice and Rome and fly out of Rome back to our country.

  • What will be the best/cheapest method of transport, train or flying from Zagreb to Dubrovnik?
  • Then to Venice, will we need to leave from Zagreb or can we go via Split to Venice? Also best and cheapest method of transport, train or flying?
  • Also, we only have 4 days for Italy, would you suggest that we only to Rome for 4 days or split the visit between Venice and Rome?

Thanks :-)

There are no trains to Dubrovnik. Fly or take the bus.

It will take you half a day to get from Split to Italy, so I would suggest that you just visit Rome. Fly, as the ferry and train option will take longer.

With only 4 days for Italy, skip Venice and focus on Rome. Zagreb is great, so consider spending at least one night there before heading south. First go from Zagreb to Split by bus or train, with an overnight stop in Plitvice possible if you go by bus. Take a bus from Split to Dubrovnik and then fly to Rome. Note that there may not be direct flights to Rome every day, so plan accordingly. It takes a considerable amount of time to get from Dubrovnik to Rome by ferry and train, so flying is the best option.

Hi All!

Thanks for the reply - appreciate it.
If we only have 5 days in Croatia what would you do include/exclude in the trip.
We need to start in Zagreb.

Thanks,

Can you please also advise what would be the train stations I would need to use when travelling from Zagreb to Venice?
Thanks

Natasha, the easiest way to answer your train station question is to go to the user-friendly Deutsche Bahn website, enter the name of the origin and destination cities, and choose the all-caps city name (ZAGREB and VENEZIA for you) from each pull-down list. That will search all possibilities. The resulting list of trains will show the full station names. In this case, it's Zagreb Glavni Kolodvor and Venezia Santa Lucia.

You'll need to go elsewhere to buy the train tickets.
