Croatia to Paris

Hi I am looking to travel from Croatia back to Paris by train. I would like to split the trip up and stay in a nice little town along to the way. Any suggestions would be appreciated

How much time do you have? And where in Croatia will you be? My first thought is that somewhere in Austria might be a good idea.
