Croatia Southern Coast Tips? Six Days in Late June

Hello! My new wife and I are currently planning part of our European honeymoon in Croatia this June 18 - 23. We are flying into Dubrovnik on June 18th and arriving at 12pm, and fly out of Split the afternoon of June 23rd. This gives us four full days on the southern coast plus two half days on either end.

We were thinking we would explore Dubrovnik for the first day and a half (2,400 cruise ship passengers on arrival day and 0 the next - thanks for that tip on this board!) and then catch a ferry heading north and stopping along the way. Possible stopovers include Mljet, Korcula, Hvar, and Brac on our way to Split. After the crowds of Dubrovnik, we'll probably most enjoy the slower pace (hopefully!) on the islands and look to explore the towns on foot and possibly try out some local activities such as swimming, hiking, cycling. Our preference would be to stay at least two nights on a single island rather than being constantly on the move.

Our tentative itinerary looks like this:

June 18-19 Dubrovnik
June 20-21 Mljet/Korcula/Hvar
June 22 Split?
June 23 Flight Departs Split 2pm

Does anyone have any suggestions for us in matching our interests with the islands along the way? Which island would you recommend we stay on? Are some islands better as a stopover during the day rather than basing yourself there?

We enjoy nightlife, but since we will be on our honeymoon it isn't required. I've heard the nightlife is the main draw for Hvar, although the lavendar fields on inland Hvar sound nice to visit.

Thank you in advance for any and all guidance anyone is willing to share!

With such a short timeframe, most people would either just divide the time between Dubrovnik and Split or Dubrovnik and Korcula and fly out of Dubrovnik. You are trying to sqash a 10 day itinerary into half the time.

Any of the islands that you have mentioned would suit you. The main issue you will find is that the decent places on the islands have a 3 and increasingly 4 night minimum stay and you will be travelling when the local schools will have started their summer holidays, so it will be busy. Those Northern Europeans not tied to school holidays often holiday in June, so many places may be booked up, as they tend to book in January.

Hvar town is party central, but towns such as Stari Grad have a much more relaxed pace. The majority of the lavender fields are in the interior of the island, so are best seen by car. They harvest the lavender round about the time that you are visiting, so you may be lucky and see some or you maybe just too late, depending on the weather. Korcula is like a mini Dubrovnik.

You can't hop around the islands in a single day, as there is only a daily catamaran that links the islands, so you need to pick an island and spend your time there. Krilo.hr will show the timetable.

It would be safest if you spent your last night in Split or Trogir for a 2pm departure. Both are worthy of at least a full day each.
