Hi... we are looking at hiring a car for a week, picking up in Split and dropping in Koper. Trieste would be better but from what we have found (and what has been suggested to us), Koper is a bit better as the one way drop off fee is less.
We have looked at Sixt and they have a deal that is affordable. Has anyone used them in Croatia? What was your experience? Does anyone have any other car rental companies you could recommend?
Thank you!
We always use Sixt for our car rentals and have done so in Croatia. Very good experiences - good cars, good service. This is a large German company.
Thanks Emily! We’re in Australia. Turns out they’re here as well but we’d never heard of them. What’s the actual driving like in Croatia / Slovenia?
Roads are fantastic and better than US roads. Slovenia requires a vignette on the highways and in Croatia you pay tolls.
Hi again - thank you. That’s good to know about the roads. Appreciate your help :-)
Yeah, driving is easy in Croatia and Slovenia - maybe less so if you're driving on the, uhm, wrong side of the road there. ;-)
Yes, roads are great. I've used Sixt too twice in Slovenia and Croatia and would use them again. One tip: plan on having a working mobile phone! For some reason, I had trouble finding the drop-off locations for both of my Sixt cars and had to call them ("Where ARE YOU???"). Turns out they often use hotels as off-hours drop points - or even at times when their office is supposedly open but no one is actually there. Having the phone to call them saved an enormous amount of confusion!
Sixt is probably one of your few choices for dropping in one country after renting in another, because they are an international company.
Thanks so much Andrew! You’ve been amazing helping me :-)
