Amazing trip! Ljubljana is a great city. Maybe Zadar is also great. We loved this city.

Sounds like you have it worked out. I woukd do a few things different than you, but i'm not you so looks great. I would suggest that you Google for package tours and look at the Viator listing for each of your stops. Its just a good way to find a few of the stops inbeteeen the big attractions. The things inbetween make or break a trip for me.

Well, you’re going to love the coast for sure! This itinerary is totally valid, but if you’re looking for feedback I must oblige. There’s nothing too crazy here, but like a lot of itineraries I think it would benefit from a little simplification and less one-two night stays.

Considering you’re arriving so late in Dubrovnik, I would add another night there. Right now you’ve basically one full day before leaving via ferry in the morning. You’ll enjoy having a day to swim at Buza bar, go to Lokrum or just soak up some extra magic. The boys are going to have a blast here, especially the nightlife scene. Dubrovnik is a weird beast, imo thoroughly enjoyable but enough of a hassle and far enough from everything else that I probably won’t return. I say get your fill now.

I would consolidate Korcula/Hvar into one stay, and lean towards Hvar. RS guidebook advises to pick one and roll with it, and I’d agree. There’s not a lot to gain by splitting this up. They are roughly equivalent from a tourist perspective. If you do that you can trim it to 3 nights if you felt like it.

Personally (and I’m probably not alone here) 3 nights in Bled is overkill, especially on this timeline. Bled is pretty, but crowded with little going on at night. I thought a daytrip was about right. Since you’re driving from Plitvice, and a cave is on your itinerary, a couple nights in Soca Valley may suit you a little better and there’s more in the way of outdoor activities (like rafting.) Ljubljana by comparison is a blast, I’d much prefer nights there. Alternatively, snip one these nights for another on the coast. Like, after getting around a fair chunk of the region I’d trade Bled for a day on the coast ten times out of ten.

Though I understand nights are already hard to come by, I also can’t help stumping for a night in Zagreb, one of my favorite underrated cities. If you’re at all uncomfortable traveling on your international flight day, I’d do a night here without hesitation.

Like awrzesinski, I would cut down on the number of one-to two-night stays, given some of the travel times between locations. And after biking or hiking, it is nice to have unplanned time to experience a city or town.

When we were in Slovenia, we drove through Bled but stayed three nights in the Bohinj area, and we were happy we made that choice. And as much as I really loved Slovenia, after visiting Plitvice, I might continue in Croatia and save Slovenia for another trip.

I wouldn't spend 3 nights at Lake Bled either. We visited for a day from Ljubljana, and that was fine for us. But, of course, everyone is different and has different interests. And you are traveling with your twenty-something sons, so they will have different interests than my husband and me.

I might take one night from Lake Bled and add it to Zagreb so that you are there the night before your departure for home. The drive from Lake Bled to Zagreb is 2 hours or more (depending on traffic). And this way you get to see a little bit of Zagreb, which is very different from Split and Dubrovnik. You should check to see what time you need to be at the Zagreb airport. Is it 3 hours for an international flight? Some smaller airports require less time.

Have you made your airline reservations yet? If not, would you consider flying home from Ljubljana? That would be a much shorter drive from Lake Bled.

Another option is to add a second night to Split. We loved Split. The architecture is beautiful; the Riva along the Adriatic is beautiful; and the juxtaposition of the city through Diocletian's Palace is quite unique. And I remember Split being quite lively in the evenings.
