Croatia Itinerary for June... Help!

Hi RS Travelers. I am just starting to plan a trip to Croatia (any maybe a few days in Greece?) in June. Departing the Bay Area on the evening of June 23 and arriving in either Athens or Croatia the night of June 24. I will have 9 days for travel before returning on July 4th. This will be my first trip to either country. I have found reasonable flights to Athens and returning from Dubrovnik.

Does it make sense to spend 3 days in Greece (1-2 days in Athens and 1 day on an island)?
What is the best way to travel from Greece to Croatia?
The places I would like to see in Croatia are - Dubrovnik (2 days), Plitvice Lakes (1 day), Split (1 day), the islands - Brac, Hvar, Korcula (1 day each?)
What other places/sites in Croatia would you recommend?

Thanks,
Chris

With 9 days, stick to Croatia only. You'll lose a day travelling between Greece and Croatia and there's really no sense in spending only a couple of days in Greece, it deserves much more time. Besides, some of that time you planned for Greece will certainly be lost in transit in Croatia. For example, Plitvice Lakes are far from Split and you will probably want to arrive the evening before, spend the night and then have an early start at the lakes to avoid the crowds, so the excursion will end up taking up 1.5 days and not just 1 day. To make matters easier, try to think in terms of nights and not days. Two nights will give you one full day in a place. You also might want to reconsider the day trips to the islands, many accommodation providers have a three-night minimum stay on the islands during peak season. Choose one island and stay on it for a few nights. Korcula is conveniently located between Dubrovnik and Split, but Hvar and Brac are good choices, too.

Hi Dejan
Thanks for your reply. I think you are right about trying to combine Greece and Croatia in a short time frame. Since this is my first trip to Croatia, here is what I have planned for an itinerary. I'm not sure what the best use of time is to visit the islands - day trips or ferry to all of the islands and stay on the islands? What is the best way to visit the islands of Brac, Hvar and Korcula? If Day trips from Split, I could drive from Split to Dubrovnik. Is an island day trip to Korkula easier from Dubrovnik??

Day 1/2 - fly & arrive Zagreb evening.
Day 3 - Zagreb
Day 4 - Drive to Plitvice, stay overnight
Day 5 - Plitvice. Drive to Split
Day 6 - Split. Ferry to Brac or Hvar.
Day 7 - Brac or Hvar. Could stay in Hvar and day trip to Brac?
Day 8 - Ferry to Korkula
Day 9 - Korcula/Ferry to Dubrovnik
Day 10 - Durbrovnik
Day 11 - Dubrovnik
Day 12 - Return to US from Dubrovnik

Thanks,
CC

As you are travelling peak season, most accommodation on the islands will have a three night minimum booking, so it would make more sense to pick one or two. Personally, I would drop Brac. Split and nearby Trogir deserve a day each.
