Croatia in May - Reservations

We will be in Croatia for several weeks in mid-May. I understand May is in the shoulder season and am wondering if it is necessary to make reservations for hotels. We prefer to travel without a predetermined itinerary but don't want to get caught with no place to sleep. We will have a rental car. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Linda

I understand the desire to keep things fluid in your itinerary. Its okay to travel that way but at the very least, make reservations for the cities you are flying into and out of. For the other towns, go armed with a list of possible recommendations and then just call a few days ahead to see if reservations are available. I hope this helps some.

Yes it does! I have booked for all the fly in and fly out points and those where we arrive by bus. I'm relieved a few days notice is sufficient for booking a room, giving me the freedom to move with the weather and linger in towns we enjoy.
Thanks so much!

I know this is late, but if you are going to Hvar, I would at least book there in advance.
