Our tour starts in Ljubljana any recommendations for flights from Phoenix in June?

I'm a bit confused. Ljubljana is in Slovenia. Are you trying to fly into a convenient Croatian city since you've determined that Ljubljana is difficult to reach? If so, that city would be Zagreb. It has good rail and bus connections to Ljubljana.

Or are you planning to head to Europe a bit early to see some of Croatia before your tour starts? In that case, a different Croatian city might be workable.

What precise day do you want to fly? Schedules can vary quite a bit by day of the week.

Where will you be flying back from at the end of the tour, and on what date? You should be looking for a round-trip flight or a multi-city flight, not two one-ways.

I see a good itinerary that has you flying on Condor from Phoenix to Frankfurt, then changing to Croatia Airlines after a 2 hr. 55 min. layover. I randomly chose Friday, June 15, as the travel date.

For those of us from the USA, All Roads Lead To Frankfurt. Well, maybe not every road, but that seems to be the primary major connection. Catch the connecting flight to Ljubljana from there.

I don't know much about the tour, but if (as I suspect) you end up in Dubrovnik, then you can easily return Dubrovnik to Frankfurt, then onward back to the US.

Ljubljana is also about three hours by bus or "Go Opti" arranged car/van service, from Venice, Italy. Do some research on transportation between Venice airport and Ljubljana. I plan to use "Go Opti" from Ljubljana back to Venice this coming summer, but there are also scheduled vans and shuttles between the two cities/airports. (A train involves another change in Trieste.) Several US carriers (including United and Delta, I believe) fly direct into Venice from the US. It's quite possible that you could leave Phoenix mid-day, change flights in Houston or the US east coast, and wake up in Venice. Transportation between Dubrovnik and Ljubljana would depend on getting a (very infrequent) direct flight, or more likely another flight change, probably in Zagreb, on Croatia Air, or a smaller carrier like Vueling. So flying from Phoenix into Dubrovnik and then flying on to Ljubljana could very possibly mean four flights. Venice could well mean two...

Our guidebook editors also suggest checking flights to Klagenfurt (Austria) airport (probably via London). Afternoon trains from Klagenfurt city center to Ljubljana take 2 hours with a connection at Villach (plus airport transfer by bus). But train timing from Zagreb is similar, and often with no connection other than the airport transfer.

Looking Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the Deutsche Bahn train schedule link and tips for using it.

We flew on Norwegian Airlines out of Oakland last September on our way to Ljubljana. We flew to London as we wanted a couple of days there and then flew on Easy Jet to LJU. Norwegian has added more European destinations that may get you closer to Slovenia. They don't fly out of Phoenix but do from LA and there is a flight from LA to Rome for as little as $350 one way. If you're willing to hop over to LA you may find some good deals.
