Coratia & Budapest Road Trip

Hi All,
Am visiting Croatia with my family (2 adults, kids age 3&6) on April 18 - 25, planning to rent a car and visit Hungary also. Please advice how many days should i stay in croatia and places to visit and how many days in Budapest and places to visit. I need to explore street food also.
Is rent a car option good? (Am planning as on my last trip kids are not walking that much so confused)
We are not interested in Historical places, so any gardens like Tulips or Animal parks, train rides, beaches suggestion.
Am confused with Vienna/Budapest which one should i add and which is budget friendly.
Should i carry cash/card payment will work.
How to make my trip budget friendly.
Thanks in advance

Personally, I don't think one week is enough time for Croatia and Budapest. By train, it's at least a 5 hour trip from Zagreb to Budapest. I would think that you would want a more relaxing trip when you are traveling with young children. Also, keep in mind that April is not swimming weather in Croatia. The average high in Dubrovnik in April is 65F.

There are beaches in Cavtat (near Dubrovnik) that might be good for long walks and playing in the sand for your kids but too cold for swimming. Cavtat might be a good place to stay with children, and you can still visit Dubrovnik.

Plitvice Lakes NP might be a good place with young children, too. There are boardwalks and flat trails so you could probably push a stroller if the 3-year old gets tired and wants to be in a stroller.

Here is a link to a blog about traveling with children.

Here is something that works.

Thursday 18 Arrive from the US in Split
Friday 19 Split
Saturday 20 Morning transfer Dubrovnik (bus or transfer service)
Sunday 21 Dubrovnik
Monday 22 Transfer to Budva (bus or transfer service)
Tuesday 23 Podgorica to Budapest at 12:50 on WizzAir (about 90 minutes, non-stop, less than $50 but only on Tuesday and Saturday) taxi to airport
Wednesday 24 Budapest
Thursday 25 Budapest
Friday 26 Fly Home

Please advice how many days should i stay in croatia and places to
visit and how many days in Budapest and places to visit. I need to
explore street food also.

You should stay in Croatia 2 days to 2 months depending on your interests. What I listed hits the two top destinations.

I have been in Budapest several years and still finding things to see and do. But 3 nights is an "okay" visit if thats all you have.

Is rent a car option good? (Am planning as on my last trip kids are

With unlimited time and budget, sure. For this trip. Not really. No place to drive in any of your destinations. So it stays parked and the kids walk. You understand the drop off charges for the rental car are bound to be very, very, very high?

Sorry, don’t understand.

Am confused with Vienna/Budapest which one should i add and which is
budget friendly.

Budapest is more budget friendly than Vienna. Vienna might be a little easier to reach by plane.

Should i carry cash/card payment will work.

Yes to both.

How to make my trip budget friendly.

Go to Montenegro instead of Croatia. It’s somewhat cheaper.
Choose Budapest over Vienna, its somewhat cheaper.
Forget renting a car that will cost a lot.

Is public transport good. I got compact automatic Rent a car USD 311 for 7 days is that cheap or should I proceed with public transport. I prefer air bnb. I dont want hectic schedule so Slovenia or montegro is also ok.Can u guide on this and give an itenary.
