condition of roads to Plitvice

we are planning on taking the bus from Zagreb to Plitvice and again to Split at the end of our stay. Does anyone know if the roads are very windy or steep where we might feel unsafe (like some parts of Costa Rica where we had alot of close calls with trucks passing on curves and roads that were washed out)

The highways are excellent and the bus drivers are pros. I found some of the curvy roads along the coast a little hairy as a person somewhat scared of heights, but I see no reason for any trepidation about your bus rides. I don't know if you are going to make that connection though (from your other post)--12 minutes is pretty tight!

How prevelent is English spoken in Zagreb or Split? Thanks for the road advice- I feel much better about taking the bus. Would it be similar to the bus we took from Lugano to Tirano?

I agree with Valadelphia as far as the trip from Zagreb in concerned. I don't remember anything remotely scary. Part of the trip is on a curvy 2-land road through sort of hilly country, but you aren't hugging the side of a mountain. I haven't been on the road from Split.

English is far more commonly spoken in Croatia than in Italy in my experience (at least small town Italy). I have not been on those roads you mentioned, but I've traversed Croatia--nothing to worry about.

I haven't been to Split recently but agree that at this point, English is widely (though of course not universally) spoken by the young people in Croatia.

I've provided way-too-detailed information about your planned train-bus transfer in your other thread.
