Planning a 3 1/2 to 4 week trip in May to some Greek Islands, Athens possibly Istanbul trip and Croatia. Flights to Croatia involve multi stops and we prefer to minimize flights. We may do a cruise for Greek Islands but will probably plan to rent a car in Croatia and mainland Greece. I would love to visit Istanbul and flights to Istanbul from Boston are direct and Cheap but then getting to Athens is a problem! I read that it is better to return car to same country so will rent and return in Croatia. Trying to figure out if it is better to do Greece first or second and how to travel between.
How long is this trip and when is it happening?
Planning for May. Length will be 3 and a half to 4 weeks.
Thanks
Flying from Istanbul to Athens is easy on Turkish, Aegean, or Pegasus Airlines. Flying between Greece and Croatia is the only reasonable option for that route, even with connections. Try www.skyscanner.com as one search engine. Ferries from Greece to Croatia require crossing to Italy and back.
If you plan to pick up a car in Croatia, then be sure to tell the booking agent the full list of countries in which you want to drive. When picking up a car in Greece, I found that no major agency would let me drive their car across the border for less than $1000.
