Hi, our group of 6 adults will be visiting Croatia for a week at the end of September this year and will be spending 4 nights in Split. Thinking about a day trip to Hvar and wondering the best way to get there that gives us flexibility. Does anyone have any advice on the fast catamaran rides to Hvar and back? Should we get tickets in advance or while we're there in order to be more flexible (i.e. stay for dinner as opposed to rushing to make our scheduled time)?

You’ll have to check the schedules first, Krilo and Jadrolinija are two, may be others. Note you can travel via Stari Grad as well, which is a short bus ride from Hvar town.
I don’t think rebooking would be vital in late Sept, but make sure nothing is going on like a festival or something that could attract more crowds.
Three high-speed catamaran companies that dock directly at Hvar Town’s small harbor are Krilo ( aka “Kapetan Luka”) TP Line and Jadrolinija. Hvar Town is where you’ll want to go. The larger Jadrolinija ferries dock in Stari Grad which is miles away from Hvar Town and requires a bus ride or taxi transfer. So, be sure to take a catamaran docking at “Hvar Town.”
It’s not necessary to book in advance unless you’re planning to take the last catamaran of the day to return to Split, or you absolutely need to be back in Split at a certain time.
