We are interested in using catamarans to get between Split/Korcula/Dubrovnik in late September . I have looked at the websites and this mode of transportation looks easy and relaxing. My only concern is I see a weight restriction of 20kg (about 44 lbs) per person. The information I read said there is no guarantee they can accommodate more weight. Has anyone experienced this or had a problem with weight restrictions? Do they actually weigh your luggage?? I don’t think we will be over 50 lbs but I wanted to be prepared if this has been an issue for previous travelers.TIA
It’s been years since I took one of those catamarans, but I have seen someone ask about this requirement twice, while I’ve never seen anyone complain on a forum about it actually happening or warning anyone about the process.
As many people ply this route, it can’t be that common and I would not worry about it if I get to return!
OTOH, I’d never have 44lbs, and don’t recommend it if it can be at all helped.
In several trips on the Krilo catamarans ( aka “Kapetan Luka”) I have never once seen anyone’s luggage being weighed or any size or weight limitations being enforced by the crew.
I took the catamaran ferry from Split to Hvar and from Hvar to Korcula the next day. Yes, they are an easy mode of transportation. I just had a large backpack as luggage so no weight issues, and I didn’t notice anyone having items weighed or even any equipment to weigh them as you boarded. Personal comment: think about your back & body handling that much luggage weight during your trip, do you don’t injure yourself.
