Hi,
We plan to rent a car in Zagreb airport and drop it in Dubrovnik after 7 days. I see many negative feed backs on the car rental experiences but are dated couple of years back.
Please can any recent experiences and suggestions be shared on which rental company is safe to go with in Zagreb airport.

We rented with Sixt last year at the Zagreb airport, drove up to Lake Bled, Croatia, Mostar, and Kotor, before dropping the car in Dubrovnik at a Hilton hotel as we came into town.
We only paid $260 US for the two week rental and were very impressed as this was our first rental with Sixt. There was a long line waiting at the counter when we landed in Zagreb, however. But we decided maybe the prices were just better with Sixt.....
Carla - did they charge you an enormous deposit?
We have never had to put down any "deposit" on any car rentals we have had in Europe. At least, we never saw any appear on any credit card statement....
It is not unheard of that they request a large deposit, especially if you decline their CDW. I would shop around at other companies.
Also, I may be wrong, but I do not believe a deposit would come up on your credit card statement if cleared in time, at least that has been the case in my experience.
That could be true - a hold may have been placed on our credit card while we were traveling.
In 30 years of renting cars in Europe, this has yet to come up as a problem.
