Car rental for seniors

My husband is 78 and we want to rent a car for a couple of days. Some companies will not rent to anyone over 75. Can anyone recommend a rental company who rents to someone in their upper 70’s and didn’t have any issues. TIA

Hi, Bonnie,

I've had no problem renting a car in Scotland (Aberdeen and Glasgow), and I am close to your husband's age. I've always rented from Avis, and I believe that their cutoff is 80 before they ask for a doctor's approval. It helps if you rent from one company on a regular basis.

Many visitors to this website recommend Celtic Legend, who rent through Arnold Clark Motors. I believe that their cutoff age is 80, as well. You'd probably want to rent a car with automatic transmission.

Good luck, and best wishes, and as they used to say in the old Esso commercials, "Happy Motoring"!

I believe that Hertz do not have an upper age limit in UK and western Europe.

I called Hertz and they charge extra. $600 for 2 days and limited mileage. They are charging extra for insurance. That’s way out of my price bracket :-)
