My husband and I will be traveling through Croatia with a rental car in September. Our current itinerary has us going from Split to Korcula (2 nights) to Mostar (1 night). I was thinking we would drop the rental car in Split and then pick up another after Korcula but I cannot seem to find a convenient location closer than the Dubrovnik airport. My original hope was to ferry from Korcula to Ploce and pick up a car there but that does not seem possible. So....
Would it be better for us to keep our car and use the car ferry from Split to Korcula to the mainland OR drop the car in Split and re-rent again somewhere close to where the ferry drops us off before heading to Mostar?
Any thoughts or experiences would be much appreciated.
What is your entire Croatia itinerary?
There is a car ferry between Split and Korcula (to Vela Luka, across the island from Korcula Town). So that's certainly an option to just take the car along with you. It might make things more convenient in some ways if you want to explore more than just Korcula Town. Plus, sometimes the passenger-only catamarans aren't at convenient times and the car ferry times might be more convenient. But once you get to Korcula Town (assuming that's where you intend to spend most of your time on Korcula), you might just leave the car parked the entire time anyway.
Another option might be to park the car in Split for two days. Given that car rentals tend to get cheaper per day once you've passed the first few days, it may wind up being cheaper to pay to park the car for two days than to have two separate rentals.
