Car ferry Split to Hvar - help with websites !

I am trying to interpret the travel information on several websites regarding car ferries from Split to Hvar on May 24.

Do the car ferries operate every day ?
It looks like they only go at 8 am - correct ?

Thanks!

So, I am assuming that someone still has car ferries if Jadrolina does not ! ??

The Jadrolinija website (www.jadrolinija.hr), which is available in English, has schedules and prices for the Split to Stari Gard (Hvar) local car ferries. When searching schedules, select date of May 24 first and then select Split and Stari Grad from the drop down menus. Use the Prices tab to view prices, which are quoted in kuna.

The drive from Stari Grad to Hvar town takes about 30 minutes via a long tunnel that has been blasted through the mountain or alternatively, take the more scenic, old route over the top of the hill.

Jadrolinija run the ferries and I have found them to be reliable (I have been to Hvar three times). The villages on the northern coast of Hvar (Stari Grad, Vrboska and Jelsa) have as much appeal as Hvar town without as many visitors or music festivals which blight Hvar town at times.

Did you also take a car ? ?

I know we could do without, but we really would love to drive on to Mostar and down into Kotor, so we are stuck with taking a car to Hvar....

Carla

I always hire a car as we stay in one of the inland villages and a car is essential. If you are just going to Hvar town for a couple of days, a car is not essential, but we like to get out and explore wherever we are staying. We have found that restaurant food and particularly beer is c double the price in Hvar town than in the villages in the north of the island.

I have a questioin, will there be much to see or do on Hvar during the first week of April? Or are most resteraunts and shops and inn closed until the season starts?

I have been later in the year but friends go for the entire summer and they go the end of April when the season is just starting. Many of the restaurants do not have much indoor space and the weather is still mixed at this time of year. Some places do open year round.
