Car ferry Split to Hvar

I found out the Jadrolinija has stopped their car ferry service from Split to Hvar according to an earlier post I made.

What site do you use for car ferry service schedules? aferry.com does not work because it does not list Split to Hvar.

When will the late May schedule be posted ?

Thanks!

Do you have to have a car in Hvar? Have you considered dropping your car in Split and taking the passenger catamaran to Hvar? Where are you going after Hvar?

After Hvar, our plans are to drive to Mostar for a night, then drive to Kotor in Montenegro before dropping the car in Dubrovnik.

It costs more to drop the car in Split and rent another car in Split (after Hvar) for that next leg of the journey.

Does anyone know of the correct car ferry website for Croatia travel from Split to Hvar and when that schedule comes out ?

Thanks Emily!

I found the Split to Hvar by searching in the sailing schedule half way down the page.

NOW - We will drive to Sucaraj on Hvar to take the car ferry to Drivenik OR take the car ferry from Hvar back to Split.

Why do I not see the RETURN car ferry schedule ? What am I missing ??

All times are departure times. The left column shows departure times from town A to town B and the right column shows departure times from town B to town A. The voyage takes 34 minutes.

Hvar island takes about an hour to drive west to east and the ferry ride from Sucuraj to Drvenik is shorter (and cheaper) than the Stari Grad - Split ferry which takes 2 hours. If you are heading back to Split, it is marginal which is quicker, as it takes c 1 hour 40 to drive Split to Drvenik but if you are heading to Mostar then the Sucuraj route will be quicker.

You can't book the ferry, you just have to turn up, buy your ticket and queue. When the boat is full, they immediately start the queue for the next ferry, but there is unlikely to be a queue in May. They start loading the cars more than 30 minutes before it is due out. You can buy your ticket, put the car in the queue then walk into Split old town if you have time, but be back at the car in plenty of time.

We have found that car hire companies have not permitted us to take the hire car into Bosnia (Mostar) when renting from Split airport so you will need to check the rental terms or pay extra to get covered for Bosnia. Most hire companies also will not permit the car to be driven through the narrow coastal strip of Bosnia to get to Dubrovnik. You can go via the islands but this is time-consuming and expensive.
